As the Ferris wheel purled
Navy Pier zoomed smaller
Skaters like ants
Crawled the ice
The lake waved good bye
Grinding around and higher
Kites with tangled strings
We climbed, twined tighter
Unopened letters, sealed
By the wax of effect
Of our first revolution
The gears ceased engaging
Thumping hearts
Stopped beating,
Above the windy city
We held one breath
Till we gasped blue
Good intentions
Paused full circle
While the bucket swayed
In the thrill of the moment
Rocking, rocking
Fanning a smoldering sun
Setting
Shadows afire
Skyscrapers burnished
In copper twilight
Windows, silver
Glimmering
Winking,
In that blush
Of beginnings, I knew
Beyond reason
I would fail to remember
A color more radiant,
Than the love
In your eyes.
